What is Agneepath?

According to the government, the AGNEEPATH initiative was created to help the Armed Forces maintain a young profile. It will provide young people who want to wear the uniform the chance to do so by drawing young talent from the community who are more in tune with current technology trends and returning skilled, disciplined, and motivated personnel to society.

In terms of the Armed Forces, it will improve the Armed Forces' youthful profile and provide a new lease on "'Josh' and "Jazba," while also bringing about a transformational shift towards a more tech-savvy Armed Forces – The execution of this strategy is expected to reduce the average age profile of the Indian Armed Forces by around 4-5 years.

According to the administration, the injection of highly inspired young with a stronger grasp of self-discipline, diligence, and focus, who will be suitably skilled and able to contribute in various areas, would greatly benefit the nation. The benefits of a brief military duty to the nation, society, and the nation's young are immeasurable.

Who are Agniveers?

Agniveers will be the name given to the young who join the military services under the Agnipath initiative.

Agniveers will get a monthly package that is tailored to their needs, as well as Risk and Hardship allowances for each of the three services. Agniveers will be paid a one-time 'SevaNidhi' package upon completion of the four-year engagement period, which will include their contribution plus accrued interest, as well as a matching contribution from the government equal to the accumulated amount of their contribution plus interest.

Agneepath Explained!

The Agniveers will be injected into civil society after this four-year tenure, where they will be able to make a significant contribution to the nation-building effort. Each Agniveer's accomplishments will be documented in a certificate that will be included in his résumé.

Agniveers will be mature and self-disciplined at completion of the four-year term in the prime of their youth, with the realisation of becoming a better version of himself/herself both professionally and personally.

The 'Seva Nidhi' of almost Rs 11.71 lakh would enable the Agniveer to follow his or her future ambitions without financial constraints, which is often the case for young people from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

Terms and Conditions

The Agniveers shall be registered in the Forces under various Service Acts for a term of four years under the AGNIPATH plan. They would establish a new rank in the Armed Forces, separate from any other ranks now in use.

Agniveers will be provided the chance to apply for permanent enrollment in the Armed Forces after completing their service, based on organisational requirements and rules established by the Armed Forces from time to time.

These applications will be reviewed centrally based on objective factors such as performance throughout the engagement term, and up to 25% of each batch of Agniveers will be enlisted in the Armed Forces' regular cadre.

The Armed Forces will have sole authority over the selection. A total of 46,000 Agniveers will be recruited this year.

All three services will be enrolled through an online centralised system, with specialised rallies and campus interviews conducted by recognised technical colleges such as Industrial Training Institutes and the National Skills Qualifications Framework, among others.

Enrollment will be on a 'All India All Class' basis, with eligible ages ranging from 17.5 to 21 years old. Agniveers shall fulfil the medical requirements for enlistment in the armed forces as they apply to their particular categories/trades.

For enrollment in various categories, Agniveers' educational qualifications will stay the same as they are now. For example, the educational requirement for enrollment into the General Duty (GD) army is Class 10.
