India vs England T20I Series: Bhuvi swing and Jadeja power with bat, India won by 2-1

Although the visiting hitters would falter later, England had fallen far behind India's record of 61 for 1 at this point with a powerplay score of 36 for 3.

India survived a mid-innings batting breakdown to defeat England 2-0 in Birmingham and clinch the three-match T20I series, with the final match on Sunday in Nottingham being reduced to a dead rubber. This was made possible by another wicket burst with the swinging new ball.

In the first game of the series on Thursday in Southampton, Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed England captain Jos Buttler for a golden duck with a ripping inswinger off his fifth delivery. On Saturday at Edgbaston, he struck the first ball, curving it away from Jason Roy to generate a nothing poke to slip. Roy may have been thinking about the potential threat posed by the large inducker as he stood firmly planted in the crease and watched the delivery's line as it departed late.

In Bhuvneshwar's second over, Rishabh Pant then challenged him, forcing Buttler to remain in the crease. As Buttler lunged at a widish length delivery for the wicketkeeper to bag a crisp take, Pant's presence as well as how Buttler had fallen in Southampton may have played a role in his elimination. The review by India revealed Buttler had in fact obtained a faint bottom-edge, and the bowler and keeper were both persuaded.

Bhuvneshwar would observe after the game that the white Kookaburra had swung in Southampton and Birmingham (in contrast to the red Dukes in the Test match at the same ground days earlier), and that this had inspired him to attempt and accomplish what he does so frequently upfront: go for early wickets.

With a few of his walks down the track, Liam Livingstone attempted to shake up the seamers' lines and lengths when the score was 11 for 2. It was successful for a short while, but then Jasprit Bumrah pulled off a stunning feat by twisting the ball in late from beyond the crease and launching it past the gate to smash the top of middle and off.

In any format, it was a perfect dismissal for any bowler playing against any batsman, and Livingstone grinned widely as he recognised the exceptional quality of Bumrah's delivery.

Although the visiting hitters would falter later, England had fallen far behind India's record of 61 for 1 at this point with a powerplay score of 36 for 3.

After the powerplay, young Harry Brook made a few dashes down the track to intimidate Yuzvendra Chahal, but the cunning leg-spinner had already devoured many more experienced batsmen. He flighted it into the right-hander as he noticed Brook moving at him, limiting him space to swing and resulting in a soft catch to long-on.

Moeen Ali scored 35 while continuing the steady stream of wickets. Rohit Sharma, the captain, went to his bowler from mid-off after swinging Hardik Pandya's pulled-back length for six. The wider length across the left-hander that Pandya delivered after that fell into Rohit's hands, thus ending England's chances.
