Cases of monkeypox: The WHO reported earlier this week that there have been more than 9,000 cases from more than 60 countries.

A man who had recently returned from the UAE was proven to carry the virus after India on Thursday reported its first case of monkeypox from Kerala. The central government swiftly dispatched a high-level, multidisciplinary team to the southern state after that. The nation's first case occurs about two months after worries about the virus's spread to "non-endemic" countries outside of Africa initially surfaced. Over 60 nations around the world have so far reported cases of the viral infection.

India's  First Monkeypox case in Kerala, Centre issues alert

He arrived at Thiruvananthapuram Airport, according to Kerala Health Minister Veena George, and all WHO recommendations are being followed.

According to Kerala's state health minister Veena George, a man who recently returned from the UAE tested positive for monkeypox. He arrived at the airport in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, and according to her, he is "very stable, with all vitals normal."
To help the state, the federal government has dispatched a team that includes specialists from the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

"None of this should cause you to worry or feel anxious. The patient is stable and every precaution is being taken, "No more information regarding the patient was provided, the state minister informed the news agency ANI. In addition to his mother and father, 11 other passengers from nearby seats, two taxi drivers, and an auto driver have been identified as his main connections. Hours before, she had stated that "a person who returned from abroad" was brought to a hospital with monkeypox symptoms. To the National Institute of Virology were transmitted his sample.

The federal government advised states to take safeguards in a letter earlier in the day. Monkeypox cases are uncommonly detected outside of Africa, therefore the government has released rules about isolation and contact tracing in May because to concerns over cases in Europe and America.

Aside from striking bumpy rashes, the virus also causes fever symptoms. Even though one of two strains is more harmful, that is typically controllable. Up to 10% of patients with the Congo strain pass away. With a fatality rate of only 1%, the West African strain is milder.

Here are ten global updates:

  1. The virus-infected individual from Kerala is a native of the Kollam area. On July 12, he left the UAE and came back. Veena George, the state's health minister, informed reporters that the National Institute of Virology in Pune had confirmed the case by examining the symptomatic person's sample. All people who interacted with the man have been placed in isolation and are under close observation, she said
  2. Shortly after, the union health ministry issued a statement stating that the centre "is taking preventive precautions by monitoring the situation carefully and working with states in case any such likelihood of outbreak emerges.
  3.  It was further stated that "the Central team visiting Kerala includes of specialists drawn from National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi, top officials from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, along with experts from Regional Office of Health & Family Welfare, Kerala

Third, WHO continues to collaborate with nations and specialists to advance research and development, the official added.
